Will my staircase comply with Building Regulations?
KwikStairs have designed their self assembly staircases to comply with UK Building Regulations (Document K) for DOMESTIC purposes however it is your responsibility to ensure that you follow the instructions correctly when constructing it to ensure that you comply.
How does my staircase come to me?
When you have ordered your staircase online it will be packaged and delivered to you. When you order it from a builders merchant you will be able to collect it immediately or you will have to check with them if they are available to deliver it to you.
How is the staircase finished?
The staircase is in a raw timber state.
How do I get my floor to floor measurement?
This is the measurement needed for the height of the stairs. From the finished surface of the floor where the stairs (lower floor) are to start to the finished surface of the next floor where the stairs are to end (upper floor).
How long does it take to construct a 12 tread straight flight?
To begin with it will probably take you approximately 3 hours, although our experienced users can do it in approximately 1 ½ hours.
How long does it take to construct a winder box section?
To begin with it will probably take you approximately 2 hours, although our experienced users can do it in approximately 1 hour.
How long does it take to join a straight flight to a winder box?
To begin with it will probably take you approximately ½ hour, although our experienced users can do it in approximately 10 minutes.
What happens if I cut my template to the wrong size?
If you are now not able to get the correct letter from your template just simply call our helpline and we will send you a replacement.
What if I make a mistake when constructing my stairs?
If you follow the instructions very carefully you will find it easy to construct your staircase correctly. However if you do make a mistake go back to the instruction point that is incorrect and see if it is possible to rectify it by following the instructions as shown. If you are finding any difficulty with the written instructions then try watching the video link on the web site where a demonstration will be performed on how to construct the staircase. How do I fit my base rail to the stairs?
The centre line of the base rail needs to be in line with the centre line of the newel post and fix to the string.
I have finished my staircase; it was so simple, have I constructed it correctly?
If you have followed the instructions to the letter then yes you would have constructed it correctly and yes it is simple!
